compose file name/location?

Does anyone know where the file is (in intrepid, KDE 4.2) that tells the
system how to interpret keystroke combinations that use the compose key?
I've always used compose ^ 0 to generate a degree sign in the past (and
there are web pages that say that that's what that combination is supposed
to do) but now it seems to be generating a true 0 index instead of the
degree sign.
I could (presumably) edit the file to do what I want if I knew where it was.
(In my Mandriva system it's in the /usr/lib/kbd/keymaps/include directory,
but there doesn't seem to be such a place in Kubuntu.)
