Lost Kmenu bar while installing router.

I just got help from a friend setting the configuration on the
installation of my new router. It worked fine; my laptop was able to
connect wirelessly. Nonetheless, just moments before he had to leave,
the Kmenu disappeared from my screen and will not reappear. Kubuntu
8.04 KDE 3.5.9 Desktop. I set the Kmenu bar at the top of my screen. I
set it to only appear when I put the cursor in the upper left corner of
the window; it would then drop down. I was able, by right-clicking on
the desktop, to get a 'find' option and typed in thunderbird and my
email client appeared. I did the same with success with firefox,
however when I attempted to open adept, my package manager, it would not
open. I was attempting to remove then reinstall the Kmenu package. I
am unable to open a terminal either, but even if able, I am too
inexperienced to know what to type in to correct the problem. Any ideas
please? TIA

Steven
