Help with Audacity on Kubuntu 8.04

If you have the terminal command "lsusb" handy, that will tell you what
the system sees attached to usb. It's been ages since I had to use it to
set up a webcam, but getting the device's numbers may be of use to you,
if it shows up. If your device doesn't show up, then it's another can of
worms. 

Have you goggled on your USB device to see if others have a similar
problem?? If so, you may just have to forgo using it as a USB device and
do the patch cord thing that you said did work. I really wish I or
another could be of more help. Maybe getting a 3 foot or so stereo cable
extension would prevent you from having to dink with the backside of
your system. :) Ric
