simply type in a terminal (konsole):

lsb_release -r -s

this will give you what version of (k)ubuntu you're using, you can type:

lsb_release -a

if you want to know more about you're system. if it shows 7.10 (gutsy
gibbon) then you can use the procedure here
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/HardyUpgrades/Kubuntu
o upgrade. otherwise, if it shows an older version, i'm afraid you'll
have to reinstall, since doing multiple upgrades up to hardy is time
consuming and not very recommended.
