What version of Ubuntu are you using - or perhaps what version of KDE?  I'm
pretty sure that kwifimanager has not been part of the official kubuntu
distribution for at least two releases.  Oddly, it _does_ appear to be part
of the KDE4 packaging.

knetwork-manager (or network-manager-kde - they provide the same thing) is
the system default network tool, and it doesn't always handle every
possible case, but it works pretty well _most_ of the time.  However, if
you just try to switch to that now, I guarantee it won't work either -
because you've now modified /etc/network/interfaces, and it ignores
interfaces defined in there.

If you want to try knetwork-manager, remove any mention of your wireless
interfaces from /etc/network/interfaces.
