No 1680x1050 resolution with Intrepid

Updating to Intrepid on a self-built box (Asus motherboard with
onboard ATI video) does not let me enable 1680x1050 screen resolution.
I do have the proprietary driver enabled, and KDE windows effects are
working, but there is no 1680x1050 resolution to choose from in System
Settings -> Display. I thought about simply adding it manually to
xorg.conf, but that does not seem likely to help;

I suppose that xorg.conf is mostly empty because of bulletproof X, but
