Yeah, I agree, there's no need for knee jerk reactions. 8.04 will be supported 
for a while longer and even though there won't be many new packages for it 
they will still likely be more up to date than other distro's offering 3.5.x

I've been following the kde developers planned features and it appears that 
most of the missing parts (config) and annoyances will be fixed in kde 4.2 come 
January.
