Widgets not working

Hi, I upgraded to kde 4 a week or so ago and tried installing a few new
widgets but couldnt get any to work, but since then most of my default
widgets no longer work.
On the main panel the show desktop/dashboard and minimize all windows
widgets no longer appear (probably more but those are the 3 I have tried
using), instead its just a blank space and when you right click on that
space the menu that pops up mentions it being an unknown applet. Infact the
Show Dashboard widget does not even appear in my list of widgets to select
from anymore.

Also when I tried and add widgets to the desktop the only ones that work are
the folder view (which I added before I had problems, but others that I was
using before having problems no longer work either). Whenever I add new
widgets they just appear as a little circle in the top left corner of the
screen (this happens for the Binary clock, calculator and comic strip
(possibly more) while the analog clock and battery monitor do work).

Anyone know how I can get this back to normal, or what I can do to post some
info that may be more helpful?

Also another problem I have had that started the same time as the widget
problems was my Alt-Tab window switcher isnt working correctly. I had it set
to use the Vista like one, but now when I do it all it does is cycle through
windows in order instantly (ie i cant hold down alt-tab and select what
window i want to go it but I have to flick through all).

Thanks for any help anyone can give. Cheers.
