I get ad hoc USB unmounts as well.  Usually when the device has been
idle for a while.  I don't use dolphin, so I don't think that is the
culprit.  I don't have the problem with gnome, so I think it is a KDE
thing.  As it usually happens with the storage has been idle, it is
not usually a problem to reconnect it when I need it.
