Hi Paul. I can't help with the missing button, but if you want to set up the
autologin, and have a bit of practice on the command line at the same time,
try the following. (By the way, I don't have KDE4 on my HH 8.04, but stuff
below should still be ok)

sudo kate, then navigate to /etc/kde4/kdm/kdmrc. Click on "View" on Kate, and
on the line "Show Line Numbers". Scroll down to line 539, which should read,
# Enable automatic login. USE WITH EXTREME CARE!, if your on the correct line.

Remove the # from the start of line 541, so that it reads,
AutoLoginEnable=true

Now on line 551, remove the # from the line #AutoLoginUser=fred, and change
"fred" for your user name, unless it is fred.

Save the changes, and that should be job done.

Read all the lines well from line 539 to the end of the file.

If you have more than one user set up on the machine, you should uncomment
line 548 as well, which should result in the greeter being shown for 10secs,
giving you a chance to choose a different user to login.

You probably know all the above, but just in case.

All the best.

Nigel.
