I have been holding back because most of what needs to be said, is being
   said already.

The thing that troubles me the most is the statement by someone, and the
acceptance by others, that Linux users are all beta testers and we
should accept that.

For some, Linux in general, and Kubuntu in particular may be a hobby,
but for me and many others, it is THE tool we use to get our work done.
I prefer Linux over Windows because, among other things, it has been
more stable and secure for me. My production boxes are not tests or
experiments, but tools that I rely upon in my job and in serious
personal responsibilities.

I have the luxury, because of my work, to surround myself with as many
computers as my desk space allows. And I usually have one configured as
a testing box, but the other 3 are meant to work. My job is not to
spend my time fixing problems with my personal desktops, but to use them
to administer the rest of the office and network.

So I think it is great to offer works in progress to the masses for
testing and previews, but a serious distro needs to offer a stable
system by default. (we have already established that Kubuntu 8.04 is not
LTS, so saying that is the stable alternative is not at all accurate)

At this point, Intrepid is not usable on a new Dell Optiplex 740 with
ATI graphics and a widescreen LCD. I have not found a resolution that
works and my mouse is functional, but invisible. I have no doubt that
will soon be fixed, but I had a more workable Feisty, Gutsy and Hardy by
late August than Intreptid seems to be coming into mid October.

Thinking of Linux users as all beta testers plays into the fears of
those who cling to the commercial OSs, that Linux is a toy for the
hobbyist, and not usable by the masses or ready to support the
enterprise. While that isn't true today and hasn't been for a while, I
fear that those who force the adoption of a work in progress as the
default, and those who say that all Linux users are beta testers, feed
that misconception.
