I run both Ubuntu and Kubuntu versions of 8.04. Both have Compiz
enabled. KDE on the Kubuntu boxes is 3.5.10.
I have your friends problem on the Kubuntu boxes, but not on the
Ubuntu box. In gnome everything is restored to its prior desktop.
As a side note. Ubuntu starts with Compiz loaded as part of the
restoration, and I can use the desktop switcher applet or rotate the
cube. On kubuntu, Compiz never restores. I have to manually load the
Compiz Icon and restart the desktop. If I try to use the desktop
switcher, KDE thinks I only have one desktop.
