The basic idea of open source is that you give and you get as you can.
This is only free if you are a total leach. Most people I see on this
list are helping others or at least submitting bug reports. The reason
open source exists is because people like to program with or without
pay. The payed devs are for the most part a new thing that has come
with corporate acceptance of open source and LOTS of devs are not
payed. Also Canonical is hoping to get payed out of all this at some
point but many other distros don't work that way.
I would not be totally shocked to see a fork of Kubuntu that supports
KDE 3 into the future depending on how good or bad 8.10 turns out to
be for main street. (Don't you love these media buzz words. :-)
