New 8.04 install fail on booting

This is very frustrating. Unfortunately, it is difficult in practice to
make it clear to people what needs to be done in these cases.
You are supposed to type in:
fsck /dev/sda6
and let that fix the problems. Running that same command during the boot
process was unable to fix the problems, but at the console you drop to the
same command will almost always work.
You can also run this command after booting if you don't need to be using
/dev/sda6.
In a console, type in:
sudo umount /dev/sda6
sudo fsck /dev/sda6
sudo mount /dev/sda6
