There IS no update button.  It annoyed the heck out of me that there 
wasn't one, but I guess there's a good reason.

To upgrade Kubuntu from 8.04 to 8.10 you need to run "adept_manager" (?) 
with an upgrade option (which seems to be gone from  8.10 - there's only 
"adept" now).
