I do not deny there is lots of really good stuff in it. I like some 
things in kubuntu 8.10. It is a quite brilliant approach and in some 
ways it is a joy to use.

However, firstly the newcomers are faced not with a new compile, but 
with the live CD which is frozen in time, secondly some things are 
uncomfortable to live with such as the login backgrounds, the K menu 
animations. It also is missing the disks and filesystems facility 
which I happen to use, maybe others I have not yet looked.

Newcomers are also very likely to be confused by Widgets, however good 
they are. I certainly was confused at first.
