Recent improvements to Rockbox have given the iPods a battery life
boost. Most of these
improvements are in codec handling and shutting off hardware that's
not needed. My iPod
video is now getting close to 12 hours with Rockbox, which is nearly
the rated battery life
from Apple themselves (14 hours).
