I use Kmail (or rather Kontact) myself, its very nice once its all configured 
:)

Couple of questions:
- Kontact or KMail? Kontact is the PIM which integrates KMail with a bunch of 
other components.

- Are you using POP3 or IMAP? If unsure you're almost certainly using POP3. 
Either one is good but POP3 is probably easier to work with.

- Have you setup a Sending Account?

- What error are you getting when sending mail?




ps - <pendant mode on>KMail, Thunderbird etc are mail clients, not servers :)
