OT: Upgrading an AMD processor

Ram is cheap and would be a first step. If thats not enough and your
motherboard accepts the dual core it should also be inexpensive. At 4 years
old you might want to start thinking about a motherboard/cpu upgrade in the
not to distant future rather than spending much on your current system.
