Running KDE 3 on Intripid - HOWTO

If you're like me, you like KDE 3.5.x but would like to upgrade to
Intrepid. Unfortunately, the Kubuntu team has made that difficult.
Well, I'm here to say that it is not impossible, nor even that hard!

This link has the instructions: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=963695

The author (not me!) has build packages of KDE 3.5.10 for Intrepid and
they will replace the KDE4 packages you get when you upgrade. I've
done this twice now with good success.

There have been some issues, so I wouldn't do this if you aren't
comfortable with occasionally fixing package installation problems.
But there was nothing too difficult for me.

The instructions tell you to install gnome. This turns out not to be
necessary (or desirable, IMHO). It does upgrade to KDE 4 before going
back to KDE 3, so be careful. Don't log in at start KDE until you've
downgraded again. I think that was the point of installing gnome--it
lets you log int without messingup your KDE install.

I hope it works for you. I'm a happy camper with 3.5 on Intrepid.

Michael
