Hiding fonts from apps

I like viewing web pages and emails in the intended languages/fonts.  However, 
I never compose in Cyrillic or Japanese, etc.  Is there a way to hide these 
fonts from apps like OpenOffice so that they do not appear in the font 
selection drop-down?
