And what then?
You'll have a hard time finding a R500 based card, because for all
others R600/700 (HD2x00-HD4x00) there are no open-source drivers which
offer at least 2D accaleration. The proprietary catalyst drivers offer
good OpenGL support, but don't provide *any* RENDER accaleration - so
they are much worse than NVidia.
I've benchmarked and tested the new 177.80 drivers, and although I
prefer free drivers I have to admit that NVidia has currently the
best-performing RENDER implementation across all driver/gpu
combinations. I hope Intel will come close once they've finished GEM
and will have done some tuning.
