kmailrc

I'm trying to restore my kmail accounts and filters with a backup of kmailrc.  
When I copy it and then start kmail it just overwrites kmailrc and leaves me 
without accounts and filters.  How do I overcome that?  I'm running Kubuntu 
8.04 with KDE 3.5.9.
