yes, 1 MB/s is a very good speed, i get worse and on FAT32 drives!
if you want a fast FS you might try reiserfs, there are ways to put it
with no journaling, and i've heard it's pretty faster than other FS,
though i have never tried reiser before!

and i would never advice anyone to use journaled file systems on flash
drives or solid state HDs, since the huge amount of data written to the
same place on the disk (the journal) will eventually fry out the area,
and really decrease the life of the disk.
