changes that made 8.04 upgrade work using aptitude

Suggested by whom?

It's not the officially Kubuntu blessed method to upgrade (which is
adept-manager), but the only real issue is the fact that "safe-upgrade" is
just a subset of "full-upgrade", so why not just do the full-upgrade?

That's what "aptitude clean" does, and rm-ing shouldn't do anything else.
