8.04 X64 Boot Failure
Chuck,
My X64 system also failed. There is something wrong with the video setup after
the upgrade installation. The .17 kernel corrupts it.
I recovered it by running the .16 recovery package from GRUB and using the
xorg recovery set up at the end . It cleaned out the xorg.conf file and then
booted properly. I am using the standard "nv" opensource driver on my system
and it works at max capacity ( No Compiz).
I believe there is also a problem with the latest Nvidia driver and would not
recommend using it for older cards.
