I haven't got compiz installed on my hardy kde4 yet and, besides, I'm not at 
home, but on gutsy these packets simplify getting in kde with compiz enabled 
by default. Previously, if didn't want to sort out the little mess I'd found 
after log in, I had to stop compiz before logging out, start it after logging 
and fix the pager. Now it's all automatic.
