Here. You'll probably have to finish it yourself for it to work on your own
computer. I have two soundcards, one uses JACK, the other doesn't. They're
chained together through SPDIF. Festival plays on one card, but I can't
record from that card with arecord when Festival is playing, so the only way
I can record (apparently) is to use a JACK recorder. The problem is that I
can't figure out any way to get Ecasound to record from CAPTURE_11 and
CAPTURE_12 instead of CAPTURE_1 and CAPTURE_2, so all I ever get is an
empty .wav file.

It's highly doubtful you have such a complicated audio setup, and it's
pointless to try to get Ecasound to record the correct inputs for my
purposes, because this is more likely to work on your computer, but not mine,
like it is now.

I have no idea about the arecord option, if you aren't running JACK, which is
probably likely for a regular garden variety (ie. not Linux audio, because
this isn't the Ubuntu Studio list) user.

I could try to turn off all my fancy stuff, or go test this on my wife's less
complicated computer, but I think this little project has just about
exhausted its neato keen what if value, and I leave it up to you or somebody
else to sort this the rest of the way.

At least now you know where to start. You can Dotanate those pesky PDFs!
