WICD and KNetworkManager

I recently bought a Dell 1525 Inspiron laptop and am planning on setting up a wireless 
router at home. I would also like to be able to use 'hotspots' and wireless connections at 
friend's homes.

I read on this list that WICD is superior to KNetworkManager. I also read an interesting 
article about WICD [http://www.linux.com/feature/118224] where one of the comments was 
that one should uninstall KNetworkManager as it conflicts with WICD.

Any comments or recommendations/suggestions?
