No, you are just searching in the wrong place.  Kubuntu-desktop is not
a program, it is a "meta-package" or a package that is a list of the
many related packages that need to be installed.  I am fairly certain
that this is why it is not showing up.  Try installing it from the
command line like Donn suggested.

No need, unless you really want to start from scratch.  Just follow
