My heartfelt thanks to the individual or individuals that fixed the
previously reported problem with nvidia-glx-new for an AMD64x2
motherboard from ECS Elitegroup. Todays update fixed the
problem.

I reloaded Kubuntu 8.04 release and upgraded nvidia-glx-new
and the reboot brought up the high-resolution display as
desired and needed.

I do appreciate the effort that the cast of thousands expend
daily in making ubuntu/kubuntu one of the most popular and
one of the most used LINUX distributions in the Universe. It
is not easy and those that complain from the sidelines need to
take a good look at how much time and energy goes in behind
the scenes.

While awaiting the fix I spent some time loading openSUSE 11.0
RC1 AMD64 and playing with it. It did come up with the nvidia
display in high resolution, but I really really don't like the software
manager at all. The adept package manager and the other
command line and gui tools really are going to make unbuntu/kubuntu
my system of choice. I have removed openSUSE and even though
I reported some bugs there and they are/were being worked on and
fixed I will probably not reload and use it. I am a happy camper with
8.04.

So, I owe someone lunch the next time I see them if I find the person
that did the work.

FYI

chuck
