Trying to use printers on house machine from the shop machine

Greetings;
Shop machine is kubuntu-6.06 LTS
I did have this working flawlessly 2 years ago, but had a drive hiccup and had
to format and install again. AIR, all I had to do then was make
an /etc/cups/client.conf file that contained one directive, the
ServerName coyote.coyote.den
coyote.coyote.den resolves to this machine in that machines hosts file. And I
have done this again, and restarted the /etc/init.d/cupsys which reports
success.
I can send firefox to http://coyote.coyote.den:631/printers and see all the
printers I have defined on this machine just fine, but there are no printers
showing at http://localhost:631/printers, just a search page.
Trying to add a printer gets me a username and password request which is
denied always. sudo works fine however.
What magic twanger have I not plucked in the right key and sequence folks?
