re re-partition Kubuntu 3-partitions on 40gb

If you mean Kubuntu with "K", then yes. Gparted is one of the many 
applications you can simply install from the Ubuntu repositories. You can 
also try qtparted which uses QT instead of GTK for the user interface. 
However for some reason I can't remember I prefer gparted.
