Java for use in Firefox and Open Office - which packages to download?

Yes!

Remember that aptitude will pull in more packages then just what the
package you are installing depends on. I think as default it will
install all recommended packages to.

"apt-rdepends -d firefox" Will give you a list of packages that
firefox depends on and there is no gnome packages there what i can see
at least not on Kubuntu Intrepid.
