Hi Michael.

What is the make/model of your laptop? Is this a very new model of laptop?

The soundcard is obviously being detected, as otherwise you'd have no access
to alsamixer.

A bit of info please as below.

cat /proc/asound/version
cat /proc/asound/cards
lspci -vn (just the bit for the soundcard)
lsmod | grep snd
grep ^Codec /proc/asound/card?/codec* (you may get no output from this)

You could also save the script from the link below as, alsa-info.sh, then make
it executable, and run it as ./alsa-info.sh. Post back the link to the
website where the data has been uploaded to. This can be valuable info for
the alsa developers if your machine is very new, and not yet supported.

All the best.

Nigel.
