As far as I grok, the mime type is a fancy way of saying "the file 
extension type". So, your system is saying "WTF is this file and what do 
I open it with?" :)
If you peel open kcontrol, you can find a place to associate apps with 
filestypes (mime types) and then you could associate the .list file with 
kedit, but that's overkill.
