Sorry I wasn't clearer...
The problem report "Adept error committing changes" is not just a Gutsy
issue. I've seen it now in three different versions of Kubuntu.
I happens when you are updaing with Adept and for some reason
(interrupted download, corrupt file, etc) the program exits without
properly committing the files. Subsequent attempts to open Adept won't
let you modify or update anthing.
The fix is to run this line from a terminal window:
sudo dpkg --configure -a
That will allow you to properly close the files that are locked open.
Then, you can run either Adept or Synaptic and finish the update
process.
