That's only because Emacs is so self-evidently the One True Editor (tm) that 
all Right Thinking geeks find it amazing that anyone would use six (vi) for 
anything other than the most brief edits.  That said, I do use Kate and I 
rather like it.  Emacs is my preferred editor for most things.  I use 
Konqueror for a file manager and Synaptic for a package manager.
