The environment pertinent for the following two questions is (a) Ubuntu 7.04
"Feisty Fawn", (b) a new HP Pavilion a6040n personal computer whose chipset
is the Intel 82945G Express Chipset Family, and (c) I executed the suggested
resolution setting procedure described under "HOW TO: Configuring Xorg for
use with Intel i810 and higher video cards" described at
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=27029
(1) Using the Gnome screen manager, there is a "Set screen resolution"
service in the system configuration menu. I can find no equivalent when I
use KDE (which I prefer). How can one acquire a similar configuration
service?
(2) Notwithstanding unproblematic execution of the command sequence
described in (c) above, the screen resolution remains at 1024 x 768. How
can one obtain what the hardware supports, viz., 1680 x 1040 resolution?
