Wolfgang - I wish I could help you. It's so familiar to a problem I had with 
mime-types recently. Perhaps you can try opening kcontrol and fishing around 
in there. 

*Idea - try kcontrol (run it from Alt-F2) -> KDE Components -> Previews and 
meta data. Make sure the relevant sections under "Local Protocols" are 
ticked.
