It should be possible to install KDE4, and then reinstall the stuff that
gets removed (or in aptitude reset them to manually installed).  The
package that is causing the problem seem to provide the same
functionality as the package that gets removed.  The question is how
much of the interface is changed between the two.

I might try it this weekend.
