I know what you're saying, but well, I wouldn't have thought that it would be 
impossible to install some extra stuff without messing with the desktop.

Yeah, I'm just reading it from:

http://kubuntu.org/announcements/kde4-alpha1.php

"They install to /usr/lib/kde4 and can be installed alongside your existing 
KDE 3."

I was hoping there might be someone around on the list who helped to craft the 
packages and could confirm what's going on.

So a further question... is it not really possible to use Kubuntu to develop 
for KDE4 without using a chroot, vm or something similar?
