iirc, Windows doesn't recognize multiple extended partitions, but it is
possible to do that for systems where Windows doesn't need to see anything
after the first - I didn't think there was a 4 logical partition limit in
the extended partitions, though.

No, it can even be on LVM, but I gave up fighting with that (the Feisty
alternate install had no problem putting LILO on the system to boot that,
but I couldn't actually modify lilo after the fact, and went back to a
primary partition and grub).
