LCD monitor recommendations?

mv .kde .kde.sav

When kde runs again, it sees no .kde and recreates it. That fixed it for 
my LCD. I was having the same problem you are having -- video was fine 
until kde started. I reasoned that something (I never did discern what) 
in my user account was playing nasty with the video.

If it doesn't work, you can re-up the old .kde.
