Try grabbing the gparted Live CD or any Live CD and use gparted or qtparted
to resize the partitions. ought to work quite well. I recommend qtparted, as
I had a better experience with it...
There is a kubuntu repository that has the most recent KDE version...
Add this to your /etc/apt/sources.list

deb http://kubuntu.org/packages/kde-latest edgy main

I did upgrade, but the "old" way. Just changed everything in my
/etc/apt/sources.list from edgy to feisty and the did a aptitude
dist-upgrade and worked perfectly... didn't know about that tool. If you
want to have any additional infos, I can try to provide them, but dunno if
that helps, as I have done it "manually"...
