newbie questions

hi to all the kubuntu users,
  I just installed kubuntu for the first time on my acer aspire laptop , kubuntu works great, but as a newbie I have some difficulties installing the wireless driver and codecs for mp3 and the sort.
  If someone here can give me a step-by-step instructions on how to install and operate all the above, it will be greatly appreciated.

  acer aspire 5040
  windows xp home
  amd Turion64 2.0 ghz
  1GB ram
  kubuntu 6.10 kernel 2.6.17
