xorg not remembering display settings in kde

In following your suggestion to look at xorg.conf I see there were a 
number of xorg.conf files with sequential numbers 1-13 appended and 
one with what looks like a date and number xorg.conf200706031100139.

Is it that kde is looking at a modified file and ubuntu is looking at 
this last one?
