motherboard crash

My motherboard on my backup box failed so I plugged in an old 333hz board
and I am trying to into Kubuntu. Of course Kubuntu is not finding the
devices it had on the other motherboard. It there a way to get my master
hard drive working? Or do I need to install Kubuntu to another hard drive
and use what is now my master hard drive as a slave until I replace the
motherboard with a newer one? Oh as it boots it show [fail] when loading
firestarter. I am sure other items would fail later in the boot but I wonder
how to disable firestarter? I would have to know the command lines. Any
ideas?
