I'm stumped on a boot/video problem

Lots of Googling to figure out what to do about mine. Discovering other
people having the same issue. Compaq says issue is non-repairable and
requires a new motherboard. Microfractures between the power connector and
the motherboard cause erratic results like batteries not totally
recharging, etc. Sometimes had to unplug power cable, press button to
power on and then plug up cable. Wouldn't start with power cord plugged
in.
We removed the connector, soldiered cable directly to motherboard and made
it a non-portable machine. It's worked fine ever since.
The topic was about a Compaq Presario v3000 bootup, and the original symptoms
were similar to what you describe above.
