Why do you say that "surely they are conflicting"? They are not, so
long as you don't start them all at once. I personally use the
unmaintained KLaptop. Old, unmaintained KDE software is sometimes
better than the throw-every-feature-at-it new KDE software. For
another example, look at KnowIt.
